Indian Railway Electrification

Approx. 40 % of RKM is elctrified which runs 70 % freight traffic of IR. Total fuel bill of IR is Rs.14000 Crore out of which electric traction bill is Rs. 12000 Crore.

The difference in length of adjacent spans on mian line should not bemore than:- 18m

Minimum length of dropper in the span:- 150mm.

In case of overlap type turnout, the turnoutspan should be less than or equal to :- 54m.

With crossed type equipment with actual crossings of OHEs at facing turnouts, the anchor span should be restricted to :- 54 m.

Leaning of mast should be attended if leaning at tope exceeds:- 15 cm.

Some Civil Engineering

TRD officers deal with foundations a lot. Some tips:-

GAD:- General arrangement drawing. It contains PLAN and ELEVATION ( of cross section ) . It contains tentative dimensions.

Structural design:- it for two types:- Load Bearing Structures and Framed Structures ( Combination of columns and beams )

Key Plan:- Roof level ( RB ) , Floor beam ( FB ) and Plinth Beam ( PB )

Schedules of column, beam , slab and footing .

What is M-25 ? It represnts the crushing strength of the Mix ( M stands for mixed ) . Unit is N/square meter. It is measured after 28 days of casting.

What is 1 :2:4 ? It is ratio of Cement, Sand and Aggregate

Components of RCC :- Sheer stirrups ( main reinforcement ), Tie Reinforcement , Clear Cover ( for durability )

What we mean by Bottom Steel 2/16 :- it means 2 nos of 16 mm dia.

Stirrups are usually of 8 mm dia with 100 C/E.
